Trip to Smoky via Mammoth Caves

We deliberately wanted to go on a trip to drive our new car. I was eagerly waiting to see the mpg and and performance so I really needed a long trip. Initially we planned to go only three of us, but another 3 families joined with us, so our trip was a wonderful and unforgettable one.

Memorial day week end helped us to arrange our trip nicely.

24th(Friday) May 2012 around 5pm: 

Leaving from Detroit to Mammoth Caves, KY
Today I wanted to stay at Mammoth Caves, so go the chance to visit Mammoth Caves next day early in the morning.

We were able to reach our hotel around 12:15am next day, we were quiet late, but we enjoyed first day driving. Hotel owner was waiting for us, they were Indian originally from Gujarati, they welcomed us really well, also Indian smell was there all over the hotel and room. But not bad when we think about the price.

My son(Nisith) was giving a hard time for us as he wanted to play with his friend Visas, finally he felt asleep as we switched off the lights.


25th Sat May 2012


We were able to leave around 8:15 towards Mammoth Caves National Park, it was around 10 miles away from the hotel, so we were no in hurry.
This is the world's longest known cave system, with more than 390 miles explored. There were several cave systems, we selected "New Entrance Tour" which is a 2 hour intermediate tour.

Indika was eagerly waiting to take his first snap from his new DSLR camera(Nikon 5100), so we gave him a chance. After that we were not able to stop him.
